Baylis, Lillian Mary
(1874-1937)
   Founder of the Old Vic theatre company in London. Born in London, she spent many years in South Africa teaching dancing, violin and banjo. In 1898 she returned to London and joined her aunt who ran the Coffee Music Hall in the Victoria Theatre. In 1912 she became the manager of the theatre. From 1931 she also managed the Sadler's Wells opera and ballet companies.
